Four of us from MESCE, went to participate in the annual techno-management festival at NIT Calicut; Tathva 08. It was raining heavily from the morning and when we reached Calicut, the roads were all flooded.

After reaching NITC, we all went to confirm our registration. We all were surprised to hear about the registration fee of RS200. I thought of a nominal fee, but this was really high and was not mentioned in the site. After registration, we went for the first event; “Tux of War”, related to Linux commands. We were able to answer only a few questions and there was no hope to pass the prelims. The next event which we participated was the “C debugging”, named “Koder Kombat”. There was a ray of hope to pass the prelims. We visited few of the stalls, including “Transporter”, “Wheels”,etc but the rain wasted lot of the time. I planned to stay there, but later changed my plan due to the climate as all my dress were wet.

We returned back home after 4.30PM. The train journey from Calicut to Kuttippuram in the Chennai mail was a different experience. The train was overcrowded due to rush of Diwali. The results of prelims of “Koder Kombat” were not in favor of us, even though I wasn’t interested in going back.

It was a new experience as it was the first time I participated in such an event. We all returned with a lot of new ideas about new technologies and how to organize an event like this. It might be helpful to organize “MESTECH” next year if its going to happen.

Its again strike. The reason is always the same; politics and students. Anyway, it lasted for only half day and the afternoon classes went without any problem. I went to Reliance web world at Edapal to check the status of Reliance Netconnect, which Mahesh gave me. The device is currently blocked due to pending bill and also the plans are high. The basic plan starts at RS175 and the usage charges are 60Paise /min during day time and 30paise/min during night.

Me, Krishnaraj, Jom and Sajjad planned to go for Tathva 08 at NIT Calicut, day after tomorrow. We will be participating in “Tux of Wars” and “Koder Kombat”. More details about Tathva 08 and the events can be found here.

The situation is more serious than I thought. Not only my account at profusehost is suspended, but the domain name too. I got a mail today regarding that. This is what the mail says:

Still, I am not aware of what exactly happened. I have asked my domain registar to sort out the issue and also for the logs of my account from profusehost. The logs of my account might help to know what exactly happened. I think these all happened because of some misunderstanding and hope everything will be fine soon.

Also, I have changed the structure of Cool-Works website and servers. I lost my patience after waiting a long time for the domain to get registered. So, I registered a free co.cc domain name (coolwrks.co.cc). Till the main domain is registered, this will be the URL for the site. All the servers will be accessible as a subdomain of this. Currently, there are two; s1.coolwrks.co.cc and s2.coolwrks.co.cc.

Holidays passed away very fast. The only special thing that happened today was that I prepared a post regarding “Hosting a site for free” to be posted at Bizzard.info – Blog. I think it was at the last of 2007, I posted anything there and still only one post is present there. Many of my friends asked me about hosting a site for free and this post is the answer for all their doubts.

But, the post dosen’t have the luck to be there in net today. My hosting account at profusehost is suspended due to some unknown reason. I got a mail from them without a proper description on why my account was suspended. I have submitted a request regarding it. I also received another mail from PayPal, telling that “my website has been compromised”. I don’t know what it mean and whether it has something to do with the suspension of my hosting account.

Today, almost all in my class(May be all @ college) came to college thinking of strike. But surprisingly, nothing was there in front of the college gate(For all strikes, we usually see a lot of students gathered there blocking the way to college). So, everyone went to classes sadly… 🙁

There were rumors that the class will be suspended by noon. After the 2nd period, few seniors came with the notice and all was happy. I have nothing to do at home, so, I stayed at college and with the permission of HOD, continued with the Debian installation in the Internet and Multimedia lab of CSE department. Though Mahesh was present, he was busy with some other works. My classmate Mansoor KPA also helped me in the installations. By 4.30PM, we installed 15 systems with Debian and the one alloted for GNULab with gNewSense.
